This is me, hiking up Mount Kineo.
I don't know whether this was the same Old Town that Thoreau mentions; this one is about 115 miles SSE of Moosehead Lake.
This is a view along the shore of the lake.
And this is a view of Mount Kineo, approaching in a canoe.
Almost sure it is the same Old TOwn, in Thoreau's day the name had Native American associations, meaning the old Indian town.
ReplyDeleteThe slightly desolate quality conveyed by these pictures, that slight pulling of the sublimity towards the 'unassimilable' that drew Thoreau to the area, is captured in these photographs.
